stumbled on this while reading up on the various reactions to SOPA/PIPA being shelved (yaaaaay! fuck lamar smith!).
Particularly interesting about this is the fact that this video was (apparently) pulled from youtube on the grounds that it violated copyright laws (guessing this was atlantic records complaining, i can’t imagine that ‘Lo hisself would go after a video or...

Rock like it's 1988 again →
…with the re-release of 3 Dinosaur Jr albums exactly like they were 20+ years ago… on cassette. In a wooden box. Probably with a suspiciously skunky empty plastic baggie and an expired condom tossed in for good measure. Just like your dad’s cooler younger brother gifted them to you when he left for college.

Melvins. If you don’t like ‘em, STFU and GTFO, cuz I don’t like you.
Little saddened by the fact I haven’t gone to a Melvins’ show since 2009, and they were opening for some crap Phil Anselmo band. ‘Twas a crime, I tells ya.
I heard about some shows they played up in Seattle earlier this year where they played 2 or 3 old albums in their entirety on...

New Fitz & the Tantrums single - free download!
A new single! Free but for the price of your email address. And to be fair, they’ve already gotten mine from the last free track they gave out this way… and I’d be down to do it again, in any event. Great stuff
Grab a download of ”Don’t Gotta Work It Out” by fiddling with the kitty below:

Black Tusk’s forthcoming album Set The Dial is currently streaming on some rando AOL site. It’s rad. Check the link. It’s got just enough groove and just enough heavy and it’s been on my headphones scaring coworkers for 2 days now. I hesitate to say that a beard hasn’t been this badass since ZZ Top… actually no I don’t. Baddest rock beard since Dusty Hill...

at first, you read this blurb and you think “hmmm, well I better start pinching pennies if I want that new iPhone 5” (or whatever your phone of choice is)… but then all of the sudden it hits you:
why the fuck is “Inner Mongolia” in China? And where is Outer Mongolia? These are among the great mysteries of our time.
Just kidding: according to Wikipedia (source of all...

Interview by 1000 Knives 1. The new title of the record translates to “moving on/forward” can you elaborate why? Even after 15 years of touring with bands, I’m still learning how to deal with the inertia of spending half the year constantly on the move And the other half of...

Can we sue Sarah Palin for false advertisement? →
cuz i’m pretty sure Nov. 2008 did not qualify as an “UNDEFEATED” moment. quite the opposite, in fact. Very defeated.
And at the risk of alienating my immense fan base of 9 - sweet tapdancing porkchops but WTF IS GOING IN THIS PICTURE?!?!?! A pipeline stretching across some nice farmland in front of a huge mountain while Palin gives a double hand job?? Was this intentionally...

crypts do it proper, rage ensues →
quote:
Snere climbed amps, and he took a diver off the drum throne. He ran off the stage and back on, took his shirt off, and his belt. Then he unbuttoned his pants, stuck his hand inside to his crotch region, and gyrated. He was like a prairie dog that had been instructed by God that it must fuck another prairie dog, or it will be destroyed. Snere was running around looking for that other...

Dennis Ritchie is dead →
And, in response to this news, a commenter on NPR wrote:
#include ˂stdio.h˃ int main(void) { printf(“goodbye, world\n”);
return 0; }
Indeed.
Lots of sad news for the technorati among us these days, it feels like.

win win win win win
So, if you are in Portland, and you love free shit, and you like music, and you HAVE ANY INTEREST AT ALL IN AN AWESOME PRIZE package, you need to cruise on over to the Doug Fir and find a good-looking show to attend in the next few days. That shouldn’t be too hard, seeing as how Neon Indian, among others, is playing sets there over the next week.
Why should you cruise over and buy a ticket,...

i witnessed White Orange at a free set at the Doug Fir patio a week or 2 ago. I was sold on them before they struck up a note based on the fact that I saw more people rocking Melvins t-shirts there than I have in probably the last year, and that the drummer stripped down to some briefs, fingerless gloves, and sunglasses before sitting down at his kit.
then i run into an excerpt of a record review...

Something in the late summer air...
…is fanning my need to get down and geeky.
1st, I’ve been listening to lots of chip tunes lately. Through some Chip Tune action (still the baddest web UI I’ve seen in a loooong time), I stumbled on to the 8 Bit Collective’s song sharing site. Which is pretty niche in itself, but then after a few-days-and-dozens-of-songs worth of exploring, I came across something that is...
